FAQ

HELPFUL QUESTIONS

9 Questions for you before meeting a cosmetic surgeon for medical treatment or for surgery by Dr Van HEMELRYCK.

1° - DO I REALLY NEED IT?

Even If your friends have had cosmetic medical treatment or surgery, your requirements may not be the same. Your face is unique to you and so you will need to ask your surgeon, what treatment is appropriate for you. For example, if you want more volume on your face, and if the quantity added is too much., you could look older because of the weight. If the quantity added is correct, the results can be really natural and will improve your appearance. You have to trust your surgeon.

2° - WHAT KIND OF DOCTORS OR SPECIALISTS SHOULD I CALL?

Please, check the diploma of the doctors or surgeons :

  • Verify the surgeons diploma through the “conseil de l’ordre”
  • For botox, in France, the surgeon has to be a plastic surgeon or a surgeon who specialises in the face
  • Check the surgeon’s reputation through your friends or on the web

3° - WHAT IS INVOLVED IN A CONSULTATION ?

When you are seeing a cosmetic surgeon for the first time, you have to take your time to ask every kind of question. The surgeon has to listen to you, has to understand what you really want. He has to check accurately your face before doing anything. And he has to explain to you exactly what and how he will do it.

4° - WHAT IS INVOLVED IN ANY PROCEDURE PROPOSED ?

The surgeon has to explain the length of the procedure, the length of the treatment and if you will feel any pain or experience any swelling? The surgeon has to inform you of any potential aside effects.

5° - WHO WILL UNDERTAKE THE PROCEDURE OR SURGERY?

Ask if it will be the surgeon himself or someone else, who will undertake the procedure or surgery? It is very important for you to ask? If it will be anyone else, make the same checks as referred to in paragraph 2 above.

6° - ? IF I TAKE DRUGS,SHALL I TELL THE SURGEON ?

You have to tell to the surgeon the different drugs you are taking, and any allergies. The surgeon should know everything about your health (even the past)

7° - WHAT CAN I DO JUST AFTER ANY INJECTION OF BOTOX OR OTHER FILLER ?

After you have received an injection of Botox or other filler, it is important for you to know if you can work just after (usually 1 hour after) If you can do sport (usually one day after) If you can put on your day or night cream (usually yes ) If you can put make up on immediately (usually yes) You have to know everything – for those kinds of question, do not hesitate to contact the secretary or assistant for such questions not adressed.

8° - HOW LONG WILL THE BOTOX OR OTHER FILLER RESULT LAST ?

There are a lot of different filling products on the market and only the surgeon knows which is the right product for you. That depends on where on the face the filler is used and what kind of product is used? For example, Hyaluronic acid , botox or other product? The first one lasts around one year, the second one lasts approximately 6 months. For you, the most important thing is the safety of the product itself. Dr Van Hemelryck is working with the best laboratories and only uses market leading products which are considered to be very secure and safe for the patient. Do not hesitate to ask the name of the product.

At the same time as the procedure, a treatment of the surface of the skin is proposed, such as peelings, laser… That is complementary and the goal is to improve the final result.

9° - WHAT IS THE GLOBAL PRICE ?

For cosmetic medicine or surgery, there is no cheap price in France. If yes, be sure of the products used, the origin of the products, the diploma of the surgeon, etc….Cosmetic surgeons in France are required to be insured and usually have as much as 15 years experience in their field. Insurance is expensive and a serious surgeon does not need to be cheap. Moreover, the price includes the follow up consultations after any injections and/or any surgery.
